Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Pacific Palisades, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Pacific Palisades and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
How long until the carpet is dry and we can walk on it again?
Plan on four to eight hours for most rooms after hot-water extraction. The marine layer that sits over the Palisades most mornings from May through August slows things down, so we run air movers and ask you to leave the HVAC fan on. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away. Wait until it's fully dry before you put area rugs back down or move heavy furniture onto it.

Walk me through what happens on cleaning day.
We look at the carpet with you first, note traffic lanes, pet spots and any fiber concerns, then give you the quote. Next we move what furniture we've agreed to move, vacuum with a commercial machine, and pretreat soiled areas and spots. Then comes the extraction pass, followed by grooming the pile and setting up air movers. Last thing, we walk the rooms with you so you can point at anything you want hit again.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?
Hot-water extraction is what we use on most jobs. It flushes soil and residue out of the pile and rinses it away, and Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster all list it as the method that keeps their warranties intact. Shampooing works on heavily soiled commercial-grade carpet where agitation matters more than rinse, but it leaves residue behind, so we rarely reach for it in homes. Low-moisture dry cleaning is for wool and natural fibers, Karastan and Masland goods, and situations where a room has to be back in use fast.

How often should carpet be cleaned?
Every 12 to 18 months covers a typical household. Push that to every 6 to 12 months if you have dogs, kids, or a house that sees beach sand tracked in from Will Rogers and Temescal. Sandy decomposed-granite soil off canyon lots and steep driveways is abrasive, and it grinds fibers down when it sits in the pile. Homes still dealing with smoke odor and soot residue after the 2025 fire often need a shorter interval for a while.

What determines the price?
Square footage and room count are the base. On top of that: fiber type, how soiled the carpet is, stairs, pet treatment, and whether we're dealing with smoke or ash residue, which takes longer and needs different chemistry. Access matters too, since some hillside ranch and split-level lots here have long or steep driveways that add hose runs. The estimate is free, and you get a firm quote in writing before anyone starts.

Will your crew shift the couches and tables?
Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, dining chairs and light dressers get moved, cleaned under, and set back on blocks or tabs. We leave beds, large armoires, pianos, electronics and anything on a wall mount where they are, and clean around them. If you want a piece moved that we'd normally skip, tell us during the walkthrough and we'll say yes or no on the spot.

What comes out of carpet and what doesn't?
Most food and drink spills, mud, tracked-in sand, body oils, general traffic soil and a lot of pet urine will come out. Smoke odor and light soot in surviving structures usually improve a great deal, though heavy contamination sometimes calls for replacement instead. What we can't fix is permanent damage: bleach and household cleaner spots, dye stains from cough syrup or drink mixes, sun fading, and pile that's been physically worn flat. We'll tell you which category yours falls into before we quote, not after.

Is this safe with a dog and a toddler in the house?
Yes. The solutions we use are water-based, pH-balanced to the fiber, and rinsed out of the carpet during extraction. No residue is left sitting in the pile for bare feet or paws to pick up. We ask that kids and pets stay off the wet areas until they're dry, mostly so nobody slips or tracks. If someone in the house has asthma or a chemical sensitivity, say so and we'll adjust what we use.

Do you handle upholstery, area rugs and tile too?
We do all three. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned with the same extraction approach, sized down for fabric. Wool, silk and hand-knotted rugs come off the floor and are cleaned separately so the dyes and fringe aren't damaged. Tile and grout is a different machine and a different process, and it can be bundled with carpet on the same visit.

Can you come today, and where do you work?
Same-day slots open up regularly, and morning calls have the best odds. We cover Pacific Palisades top to bottom, the coastal bluff and canyon streets, the Santa Monica Mountains side, and the flats near the Pacific. We also run into neighboring Westside areas between Santa Monica and Malibu. Call and we'll tell you straight whether we can get a truck out today or whether tomorrow is the honest answer.
