Why your carpet still looks dirty after cleaning

Traffic lanes look gray again within days. That is usually residue. Old shampoo methods left detergent in the pile base, and that film grabs sand. Palisades carpet takes on a lot of sand. Beach sand and decomposed granite ride in on shoes. It settles at the pile base, below where a vacuum reaches. We rinse rather than leave suds behind, and we extract until the recovery water runs clear.

Fiber decides method. Nylon and polyester cut pile in 50s–70s tract bedrooms and hallways tolerates rotary agitation. Low-pile Berber loop in 80s–90s condos does not. Loops fuzz and distort under aggressive brushing, so we use low-moisture encapsulation there. Wool and silk area rugs over bungalow hardwood get taken off the floor, never shampooed in place.

Slab-over-concrete installs are the wicking trap. The subfloor stays cold, evaporation slows, and old spots climb back up as the pile dries. Coastal jobs need air movers and dehumidification, especially during morning marine layer. Inland rooms dry on their own.
